Privacy Policy

Barrel Buddy makes hardwood cutting boards in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, and sells them through this website. We handle your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Order information. When you place an order, our commerce provider (BigCommerce) collects your name, email address, shipping address, phone number, and payment details through our secure checkout at checkout.barrelbuddy.ca. Payments are processed entirely by BigCommerce and its payment processors — we never see or store your card number.

Custom engraving designs. When you use the design editor, we save your design — any text you type, designs you choose from our gallery, and images you upload — so we can produce your engraving and send you a proof.

Messages. If you contact us through the contact form or by email, we keep your name, email address, and message so we can respond. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to screen out spam.

Reviews. Only customers with a verified purchase can review our products. After you buy, we may email you one invitation per product at the address on your order, and every invitation includes an unsubscribe link. If you buy from us in person, we only send one if you agree. If you leave a review, we store the display name you choose, your rating, title, and text, and any photos or video you add. We check reviews before publishing them on our product pages, never show your email address, and remove location and camera details from photos.

Site analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to see which pages are visited and how quickly they load. They don't use cookies or identify you: they record the page, the site that referred you, your country, and your type of device and browser. The private links in our emails (such as proof approvals and review invitations) are never reported.

Technical basics. Your cart and your design session are remembered with a few essential cookies and your own browser's storage (see below). We do not use advertising trackers or sell browsing data.

Images you upload for engraving are stored privately and accessed only through secure, time-limited links. With your consent (requested in the design editor before upload), we use AI-powered tools, including Vectorizer.AI, to convert your image into clean line art suitable for laser engraving. Your images are used solely to produce your engraving and proof — never for marketing, never to train AI models, and never shared beyond the services needed to fulfil your order.

Saved designs that don't become an order are automatically deleted after 30 days. Designs and uploads tied to a completed order are kept as long as needed to produce, support, and stand behind your order — you can ask us to delete them sooner at any time.

We use the information above to:

• Process and ship your order, and keep you updated about it
• Produce your custom engraving and email you a proof for approval
• Answer your questions and provide support
• Invite you to review what you bought (you can unsubscribe at any time)
• Display verified product reviews
• Understand how the site is used and keep it fast, using aggregate analytics

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't send marketing email unless you've asked for it.

We rely on a small set of service providers, each of which receives only what it needs to do its job:

• BigCommerce — store, checkout, and payment processing
• Vercel — website hosting, plus cookie-free visit and page-speed analytics
• Supabase — secure storage of engraving designs, uploads, and reviews
• Resend — email delivery (engraving proofs, design approvals, and review invitations)
• Vectorizer.AI — converts uploaded images into line art for engraving, only with your consent
• Cloudflare Turnstile — spam protection on the contact form

Some of these providers store data outside Canada (for example, in the United States). Where that happens, your information is protected by the provider's contractual and security commitments.

We keep things minimal and use only essential cookies. Two cookies keep your cart and design session linked to your browser for up to 30 days, and if you open a review invitation, one more keeps the review form available for up to 7 days. Your browser's storage also remembers your cart and any design you're working on. BigCommerce sets the cookies it needs to run checkout and deliver product images securely. Our analytics don't use cookies, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

The site is served over HTTPS, uploads live in private storage accessible only through signed links, and payment handling is delegated to BigCommerce's PCI-compliant checkout. We keep order records as long as required for accounting and legal purposes, draft designs for 30 days, published reviews until you ask us to remove them, and everything else only as long as it's needed.

You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it (subject to records we're legally required to keep). Email brett@barrelbuddy.ca and we'll respond within 30 days.

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
